What is Antibiotics
Antibiotics are a type of antimicrobial drugs widely prescribed to stop or prevent bacterial and fungi infections. Antibiotics are acting by inhibiting the growth and replication of a bacterium or kill invading bacteria outright.
All modern antibiotics are divided into several groups. Some antibiotics, known as broad-spectrum antibiotics are active against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria (including ones that are beneficial to modern science), while others targeting only specific type of bacteria, known as narrow-spectrum antibiotics.
The first antibiotics were discovered long before their ability to inhibit the growth of microorganisms became known. But there is not a single medicine in the world that would save as many lives as Penicillin. By the discovery of Penicillin in the 1920s, scientists began a new era in medicine, that profoundly changed all human society. Diseases that were recently considered hopeless have been finally receded.
Microorganisms tend to eventually become resistant to chemical compounds, and old drugs often prove ineffective. Therefore, pharmaceutical laboratories are constantly looking for new formulas. In many cases, infectious disease physicians prefer to use broad-spectrum antibiotics of the new generation, the list of which includes drugs with different active substances.
Unlike older drugs, antibiotics of the new generation are less affecting the gastrointestinal microbiota. They are absorbed more quickly and cause a less toxic effect on the liver. Latest generations of antibiotics are able to rapidly accumulate active substance in the tissues, due to which the frequency of the receptions is reduced, and the intervals between them increase.
Antibiotics of nowadays are available for sale in many forms of release and offered under various brand names. At the same time, there are generic antibiotics that are produced by various pharmaceutical companies. Those generic antibiotics have exactly the same quality as their brand counterparts, but in the vast majority they are much cheaper, especially if you buy them online.
The most common and widely used are orally administered antibiotics, they are distributed in the form of tablets, capsules, suspensions, syrups etc. This is the most convenient form for use, but the effect of the drug is slower in comparison with other ways of administration. Certain antibiotics must be taken intramuscular or intravenous. Such medications work much faster, so they are used to treat severe forms of diseases. In some cases, antibiotics are used rectally and vaginally. And the last group is antibiotics is for external use. Ointments, sprays, aerosols and other antibiotics can be prescribed online to eliminate the local purulent process, for example.
You must be warned! An extremely dangerous and important misconception of many people is the idea that antibiotics can treat any kind of viral diseases. This is not true! Antibiotics can treat only viral infections, because they are aimed only at bacterial or fungus cells.
