Cefdinir is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic prescribed to treat numerous infections caused by bacteria.
Cefdinir can be used to treat soft tissue infections, respiratory tract infections as long as otitis media. It also active against gram-negative and gram-positive organisms, including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumonia, Streptococcus pyogenes as well as Moraxella catarrhalis and Haemophilus influenzae.
Pharmacies administrate Cefdinir in the forms of capsules and powder for suspension. Cefdinir must be taken orally once or twice a day with or without food. Cefdinir is marketed under the brand name Omnicef. Cefdinir is also sold at pharmacies under various generic trade names.
It is important to remember that Cefdinir will not work against viral infections such as influenza, sore throat or chicken pox.
